Barbara Nic Dhonnacha is a fulltime radio host with Galway’s radio station Galway Bay FM. This is her podcast with the station where she will ask colleagues, friends and different people to join her each episode.   

This is the fourth episode and Barbara is joined by Galway Bay FM’s John Morley who recently joined the team as Producer of daily current affairs show Galway Talks.

Christmas Messages 2022 with Bernadette Prendergast

The Galway Bay fm Christmas Messages Programme, which features Galway's civic and religious leaders, has been running continuously for the last thirty four Christmasses, and is an intrinsic part of Galway's festive season.

Presented by Head of News Bernadette Prendergast, it is a chance to reflect on the year gone by and to hear, in a different way, from the people who represent so many of you across the city and county.

There are also a few breaks for music with the Desert Island 'Christmas' Discs as selected by our guests - Mayor of Galway Clodagh Higgins, Cathaoirleach of Galway county council Moegie Maher, Bishop of Galway Michael Duignan, Rector of Galway and Provost of Tuam Very Reverend Lynda Peilow and representing the Presbyterian and Methodist Community in Galway Reverend Helen Freeburn.

Renmore’s Finest-the Journey to Jadotville

"Renmore's Finest-the Journey to Jadotville," is a two part documentary series which tells the story of some of the soldiers from Renmore Barracks who found themselves embroiled in the Siege of Jadotville in September 1961. 

 

Galway contributed a number of soldiers to the Irish Army's 35th Battalion, designated "A" Company, who while serving as part of the United Nations Operation in the Congo were besieged in the mining town of Jadotville by Katangese forces loyal to the secessionist State of Katanga.

The documentary series features the stories of a number of veterans including Galway city residents Charlie Cooley and Sean Flynn as well as Kilconly native Billy Keane, Mullingar's Tom Gunn and John Gorman who led the campaign for recognition of the soldiers bravery. 

 

Also featured is Galway resident Leo Quinlan, son of Commandant Pat Quinlan who famously led A Company during the 5 day siege. 

 

The programme features interviews with a number of veterans who have never before told their stories. Also in a broadcasting first, listeners will be able to hear some of the taped messages which were recorded by the soldiers while they were being held as prisoners in the Congo. and sent home to their families in Galway.
